Ron was called to the Bar in 2007 after articling with Green & Chercover, a prominent labour, employment and human rights law firm, and the Canadian Autoworkers Union. After being called to the bar, he continued as an Associate at Green & Chercover for a year before assuming the Staff Lawyer position in the Workers' Rights Division at Parkdale Community Legal Services. At Parkdale, he supervised five law students and represented clients in a number of important cases, most notably an Employment Standards Act, 2000-based appeal before the Ontario Court of Appeal. Around the same time, Ron made good on his dream to open Franklin Law.
Ron represents workers - only workers - and his practice focuses on employment, human rights, labour, health and safety, workers' compensation law and professional regulation law as well as civil litigation and labour arbitration. He emphasizes a collaborative approach to legal support and representation in which he works "with" workers to understand their concerns, evaluate legal options and jointly devise legal strategies. He is aware of and sensitive to the employment issues workers face and his services range from providing his clients with an objective third party opinion to providing with them full representation on employment-related matters before Tribunals and Courts.
Ron has appeared before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Board of Referees, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Small Claims Court, Ontario Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Appeal and has been involved in judicial review proceedings before the Divisional Court.
Prior to attending Osgoode Hall Law School, Ron completed a Master of Health Science degree and worked as a health and safety professional for various organizations in Ontario and the United States. During law school, he worked in the Workers' Rights Division at Parkdale Community Legal Services and in the Legal Services Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Labour. He also sat on the Board of Parkdale Community Legal Services, was an executive member of the Black Law Students' Association and volunteered with the African Canadian Legal Clinic.
Ron continues to be active in the community. He was part of the Ontario Bar Association's Wrongful Dismissal Task Force, was a member the Workers' Action Centre's Board of Directors, has written employment and human rights law columns for Pride News Magazine and the Canadian Immigrant Magazine, is currently a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, a member of the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations, and a Board member of Osgoode Hall Law School's Alumni Association.
